The Power of Writing: How I Used My Teenage Years to Create the Book Trilogy 'Stalkers'

Stalkers was my escape from the drama of high school. I would hide away in my room, writing scenes of a utopian version of myself where I could handle any situation flawlessly. My father would tell me to go to bed, but I would stay awake, hidden under the covers, writing about a world where tigers and panthers walked around like humans.

It was a surprise when I laid out all my scenes and chapters on the floor, realizing I had unknowingly written a book. The pages were scattered across the floor, written on napkins, the back of homework assignments, notes to friends in class, and beat-up lined paper. And as I pieced them together, I discovered it was not just a book. It was an entire trilogy.

The first book, Stalkers, took me eleven years to finish. I didn't even know it existed until I finally mustered the courage to complete it. The second book took five weeks, and the third took eight. Most of the chapters had been written in previous years, I just had to bridge the gaps between them.

Now, decades later, the Stalkers trilogy is published, but I still struggle with imposter syndrome. The cover has been redone multiple times, and I have lost count. But I am proud of the latest version, as the characters are so close to my original vision it's almost eerie.

I wanted to write this blog to shine a light on how far Stalkers has come from those original pages in the late 1990s. For years, I hid these books, afraid of how people would respond if they read them. But every character in these books is a piece of me, a manifestation of my emotions and experiences. They are pieces of my pride, shame, courage, passion, and so much more. And now, I am ready to share them with the world, in the hopes that there are others out there like me who may need them too.

Enjoy!
