My Story

When I was in high school, many individuals didn't understand my ADHD. I was known for blurting out the wrong things, not fitting in, and talking too much. My nicknames were "lips" or "Conan the Barbarian" (due to my height). Each night, I would write fantastic stories as my coping skill. The stories began to grow beyond my nightly rants. Eventually, they ended up on computer files, napkins, journal pages, school notebooks, and even my forearm on more than one occasion.

One day, I had a sudden epiphany. I took several pages and tossed them on the floor. I remember staring at them for several minutes in wonder before placing them into organized piles. I discovered I was just a few chapters shy of writing a book. Later on, I realized it was three books. Hence, "Stalkers" was born.

As I grew older, I researched ADHD to see how I could fit into society without medication. I attended college and quickly got distracted by Jung and Campbell. Their work inspired me and was a perfect marriage between my love for writing fantasy and my quest to fit in. I joined the field of psychology at a young age and was one of the youngest Mental Health Workers employed in Connecticut.

One of the first things I found in the field was the belief that psychology and magic were polar opposites. In fact, psychology (and science in general) was supposed to be the death of magic. It was the explanation behind it all. I was torn for several years because anything remotely considered new age or fantasy-based was frowned on in the psych field. Even Jung was considered too liberal at times.

Luckily, things have changed. Jung's archetypes and Campbell's Journey of Heroes are the perfect bridge to my love of psychology and fantasy. I now work with adults using the Hero's Journey to help them on their quest for happiness and have created this site to create a community. I love to use history, culture, fairytales, myths, and more to teach. I teach weekly groups and am always searching for others of my eclectic tribe.
